At our house, we are all about awareness and being able to help others. Thus, here is an IMPORTANT message about septic systems. Enjoy!
For those of you who own a home, are thinking of owning a home, or have a home with a septic system, please pay attention to this helpful tidbit of information. Learn from our troubles, if you will.
First off, let me explain how a septic works.
As you can see below, what happens is your washer, sink, tub and toilet water (along with your poop) goes from the house to the septic tank. There, the poop, toilet paper, food schnibbles drop to the bottom of the tank. The water and pee get filtered out into the lawn (pipes are buried obviously) and settles in the earth. So, when you hear of a SEPTIC SYSTEM FAILING, it is meaning the pipes no longer work out in the yard and POOF – you just spent $15,000+ to fix it.

At our house, we have a septic tank and are very aware of the sensitivity of septic systems. For example, be cautious of how much toilet paper you use at my house and PLEASE do not flush your tampons! (eewwww).
Anyway, the start of this basement project has just led us into a bigger and bigger mess with every step we take. First, it was the mold, then it was the water in the one cinder block and NOW……it is this.
See this pipe, it takes our water/poop/pee from the house to the septic tank.
And see this….this is the area that we cannot get dry (notice the dark spots).
And see this….this is the teeny, tiny, hole that Greg drilled to drain the water.
Well, thank goodness he drilled the hole, because if he hadn’t, the night when I gave the girls’ baths and he was in the basement working, we would have never known that the water in the block is coming from a leak in our pipe!
Thus, the water coming in through the hole…..yup, you guessed it….is the water leading from our house to the tank! The pooper water!!!!
Granted, it is trickling down through earth, but come on…..its still yucky.
So, all in all, be aware of your septic and basements because no amount of water in your basement, no matter how small or large, is ever a good thing.
The End.

Gosh, I have such mixed feelings about this...
On one hand, oh man, so sorry to hear about these troubles.
On the other, thanks, I feel so much more versed about septic systems now. Like, I actually GET it. So thank you for that.
Totally unrelated: I love the new picture of the girls on the top. I used to think Morgan looked just like Greg but now I think she looks just like you.
