Utah 2014

It’s been far too long since I’ve posted to the blog. I have thought about just dropping it all together, after all who really reads blogs nowadays anyway. But then I realized that I take the time to edit the pictures, and it doesn’t really take me much longer to go in and put a little blog post together so why not…what does it hurt, right?

This summer we took our first, major family road trip to Utah. We were so lucky to have our friends in Bloomington (the McLaughlins) plan their family trip out west at the same time. That being said, we decided to caravan with them out there just for fun. And fun it was.

We left on a Wednesday night after a home-cooked meal of pasta, veggies and milk because heaven’s knows we weren’t going to eat food like that for the next few days. At 6pm we hit the road, following our friends, making sure none of the kids drank too much for fear of stopping too often.

We stopped every 3-4 hours to stretch/pee/fill-up and switch drivers as well. Greg and I did great, driving half and half. The kids fell asleep in the car around 11:00pm and didn’t wake until 7am! It was quite amazing. Even though Greg and I were Dog Tired, we did okay and survived, arriving to Utah in only 22 hours (including stops) and 1500 miles later by 3:30pm on a Thursday.

There we had a blast. On our first day, we decided to head to Salt Lake City as that is something we always want to do but often don’t make time for it. It was a hot, tired and slow day for us all but we enjoyed it.

After visiting Temple Square, we took the kids to lunch at Chick Fil A and had ice cream at a cute little ice cream shop. We decided to drive back up the canyon, through Heber, then down through Provo Canyon to get back to his grandma’s (where we were staying). One of our rituals when we go to Utah is visiting Sundance Ski Resort, regardless the season. So on the way down Provo Canyon, we did a quick detour and stopped to gaze at her beauty.

After we went to Sundace, the kids were toast and we called it a day.

On Saturday we had a fun day at the Provo pool, went to dinner at with Aunt Collete, then visited the Spring Dell Pond (greg’s dad grew up there) after. It was a trip down memory lane for Greg.

One of our next favorite things we always do when we go to Utah is Ride Horses!!!! Aunt Gwen’s is the place to be, and we are always excited to get the girls on the big ole’ beasts!

The rest of the trip was fun at the splash pad, park and making cinnamon rolls with Grandma Hood.

Soon it was time to say goodbye. Memories made at Grandma Hood’s are never forgottenSmile

After 7 fun filled days our trip was over. We drove down south of Provo, UT about 2 hours to Joseph. On the way, we saw the forest fires destroying the land. It was remarkable.

See you next summer, Utah!
