There are two reasons I am enjoying this state right now. One, because it has FINALLY cooled off and is quite enjoyable. The first two months of living here it was on average 100 every day. Too hot for my Tundra Blood that’s for sure.
The second reason I am enjoying Missouri is because I finally left our little town (3rd time in 2 months) and ventured north to St. Louis (or Lou as they call it here) to go to the zoo.
The St. Louis Zoo is one of the top 10 zoos in the nation. Though its rank is still out for deliberation as different websites claim different things, I can tell you this, it is amazing. For all our WI friends who LOVE going to Chicago (don’t ask me why) try venturing south to St. Louis for a long weekend. It is only 6hrs from Milwaukee and has a ton to do. Great children’s museum, aquarium and of course, the zoo. And did I mention that the zoo is FREE! Yes, that is right, 100% free. Mind you, you have to pay for the train, but no general admission fee at all!
Greg’s side came down for a visit this past Labor Day weekend. It was perfect. Just low-key, good home family togetherness. Of course, we went to the zoo! Here was the zoo in action.
Welcome to the zoo, only $12 to park. From left: Greg, Matt (3), Morgan (almost 3), Rob, Bonnie (8mo prego and Greg’s sister).
This is how you got from the parking lot to the gate.
What a beautiful duck. Too bad it is probably dead as Morgan fed it a fruit snack!
There were about a dozen zebras there, amazing.
We were eye-level with this lioness who climbed up into the enormous tree.
The cutest penguins ever. I just wanted to swoop one up!
They had such a large assortment of bears, I didn’t even know a Sloth Bear existed!
Of course, some monkeys we got to take home with us as souvenirs.
Lastly, the awesome train ride. It was well worth my $5 and the kids were free! Who knew!
What a nice little state. I’m sure I’ll have more positive posts once it is snowing 10 feet in WI and sunny, blue sky here
