It is crazy to think that we were even able to potty train Brooke. I mean lets get real, the kid doesn’t talk. Okay, she says Momma occasionally, and let me use that lightly. I guess it proves that all things are possible…but I have to admit I solemnly swear that I prayed A LOT during this potty training experience. It was hard to stay focused and patient but I did it. Started on Saturday last week and by Wednesday it just “clicked.” I am So. Happy. $45 per month happy actually (diapers).
So what do we do to potty train? I mean, first of all the kid has to kinda realize they are peeing. Brooke indicated to us the week prior to training that she was going. So, we just rolled with it. At our house we go cold turkey in undies. Sometimes we put on rubber pants, but usually not. Also, while we use a potty seat a few times, really its just a pain and for girls she was able to hold her legs tighter together (stopping the pee), so, we ditched the potty seat on day 3.
The rest is history. She still needs me to “coach” her in the bathroom while her once a day poop. But other than that, she tells me somehow that she has to go. Either with the potty dance, touching her bottom, signing the word Potty, or just all of a sudden sitting down and calling for me. It is weird, but works.
My parents came to visit this weekend and brought Brooke’s birthday gift!
I LOVE how it changed her room. Since we rearranged furniture and potty trained her, thought it was time to bring up the toddler bed. Even though I was TERRIFIED of this little wild child being in it, it seemed to work out!
And THAT is the end of the potty training story. I am happy, of course I am. But let me say that it took a lot of determination and hard work, wasn’t just a one day thing that’s for sure. But she did it and we couldn’t be more proud. Now to work on her liking pictures…
