When Greg and I moved into our house in 2002 (yes, 2002---insane huh?) we had a very very nice group of neighbors who surround us. The families on all sides of our house were pleasant and helpful, whenever need be. Except for Merlyn who lived behind us…he was just old and liked to mosey on over every once and a while to see what we were up too.
There are two rental houses on our street. It is really odd because our neighborhood has been here since the 60s. Basically, some old lady owns the homes and doesn’t wanted to let the current residents buy them so they just keep renting. Anyway, three summers ago our neighbors across the street broke up and moved out (rental home). The house stayed empty for a while until the new folks moved in a year later. Boy, we had NO idea what we were in for.
It first started in two winters ago. The loser neighbors have a gravel driveway and never once shoveled. Guess who bailed them out more times than they should….you got it; us.
That prior summer, we met the kids for the first time. Two naughty little boys ages 4 & 5. That was the summer we learned how much them enjoyed throwing rocks. Soon enough, their mom, who lives in the house with her boyfriend, told us she was pregnant….great.
This past winter came and went. They did buy shovels this time around but the little boys left them in the snow bank thus forcing us to once again, bail them out. Finally, we put our foot down – as they never even say thank you – and said no to helping them willingly. To our amazement, their friend came over and plowed the drive….go figure.
This spring has brought an entire new level of annoyance with these neighbors. Here are the current issues/oddities about them:
- The boys still throw rocks in our yard. They’ve graduated the size of them also. Now they average the size of a kiwi. No joke.
- The baby girl (14mo) received her first ride on the tractor last night for about 15 minutes. I was ready to call 911 as he would stop, jolt, shift, start, stop again. Oye.
- The boys drive their bikes in front of you while coming down the street….ON PURPOSE! I am 100% serious about this. They taunt you and pull out just as you drive by.
- They never mow their lawn. Geez!
I miss the old neighbors. Can I vote these people off the street?

Don't know about Sussex but some citites, villiages, whatnot will let you complain and they give them a citation. If it's not fixed (like the yard) they get fined. Hope they move soon for your sanity!!! Send them a receipt for a new lawn mower blade from the rocks...maybe they'll teach their kids...doubtful.
2002? Really? How does that work?
Boo on lame neighbors. I've lived in 8 houses since 2002. Congrats on longevity and stability!!
My dad said those two dang kids were taunting him and then he revved his truck engine and they moved hahaha little s@&#s!
