Today it was brought to my attention that I never did a post on the name Shelby and/or any reason behind naming our little pumpkin Shelby. In honor of Kate’s post, as well as Lisa’s inquiring – here goes.
Shelby. English for A place where willows grow was originally brought to our attention last summer when we were visiting Greg’s family in Utah. You see, Greg’s Aunt Gwen’s house on his mother’s side, where we were staying, has a son named Jason who dated his next door neighbor, Shelby, for quite some time. They no longer dated anymore, but still lived next door. Anyway….the name was brought up one night and at that moment, we knew that was going to be our next girls name since we were trying to conceive around that same general time.
Jane. Hebrew for God is Gracious also stems from Greg’s side of the family. Greg’s maternal grandfather’s brother’s wife (did you follow all that) is named Jane. Shelby’s original middle name was going to be Ann (per Greg’s request not mine) until two nights before she was born. Here’s the story to that...
We were sitting at dinner, and me (the obsessed planner) said, “Alright – the names. Emmett Easton for a boy and Shelby Jane for a girl.” I accidentally said Jane instead of Ann and really had never even thought of it before that moment. Greg looked at me and said, “Shelby Jane. That is really cute.” And it was done.
I should have known, at that moment, that we were going to have a girl because either one of us gave a hoot about Emmett Easton. It’s already been vetoed off our list. Haha.
Thus – Shelby Jane is her name.

I'm so glad you posted this, I love hearing how people choose their names!
Shelby Jane is adorable and it sounds like it was meant to be if you're boy name is already off the list!
